I come from Italy, specifically from Sardinia, a wonderful island in the middle of Mediterranean Sea, where I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance and a Master’s degree in Economic Sciences (Monetary and Financial Markets) at the University of Cagliari, with a final dissertation entitled ”An empirical model for the migration of speculative bubbles among market sectors”.

My enthusiasm and eagerness to learn more, jointly with my curiosity for different cultures, pushed me towards different experiences abroad, where I spent most of the last four years. In fact, during my master’s programme, I spent a semester at the University of Magdeburg (Germany), I worked in China for a consultancy company, and in London, at the statistical department of an international no-profit organisation. After graduating, I approached the world of research, spending eight months in Spain, at the Telecommunications Technological Centre of Catalonia, where I worked on a research project aimed to combine telecommunication topics with macroeconometrical analysis.

Finally, BigDataFinance drove me to Switzerland, where I am working on my research project on Systemic Risk and Financial Networks, and pursuing a PhD at the University of Zurich. I applied to BigDataFinance project because I am very enthusiastic about the idea of combining Big Data techniques and econometric methods, and applying them to empirical finance. In fact, in my opinion, this is a very promising research line, as well as the perfect opportunity to satisfy my desire to learn, update and get in the game. Moreover, I think that the Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN programme constitutes a rich source of professional and human growth because it allows me to participate in a highly and challenging international environment.

Chiara Perillo is based at University of Zurich 2016-2019, and her research project is Systemic Risk and Financial Networks
